for the cardinals, pops out descuterow to end it. perfect poetry. the baseball diamond soaked and muddy, the giants go off with a celebration of their second national league pennant in the last three years. they now face the tigers and as fate would have it they have never played the detroit tigers in postseason in the history of the giants franchise. another interesting historic fact from tonight. the giants including new york have never won a seventh game in a playoff series of any sort. they put all that to bed, and they are the national league pennant winners and they do it decisively outscoring the cardinals 20-1. cardinals with only one run in their last 28

wednesday afternoon. coming up at 10:30 we will take you inside one bay area business running full steam for team gear this hour. after more than an inch of rain fell today in parts of the north bay and more than a foot of snow fell up in the sierra. it's our first significant storm of the season. it also left its mark in the central valley where there were several tornadoes that touched down. take a look at this funnel cowed. it appears at least four tornadoes touched down around 3:00 this afternoon. one tornado lifted a person's barn and a bought and then dropped them several feet away. other damage included down power lines and damaged roofs, but note injuries were reported. and in sacramento, the winds damaged several buildings, uprooted trees and knocked down

a fend. elk grove police say others claim to see the tornado, but the national weather service as not confirmed that. we're following the rain right now in the weather center with storm tracker. >> well we did receive a bit of a break in the afternoon but the rain and the showers are back and they are going to continue through the evening hours. giving you a look here where it is falling at this time, you can see quite a good bit of rain falling over the east bay, even tracking the possibility of anywhere from a half inch to an inch per hour. it is moving through, sore we're not likely to see that, but even hail was spotted in areas near mount diablo. san rumoan, switching over to the punils lu,atat park dry at

we are monitoring some developing news following the big giants win. hundreds of people headed to the mission districts and are celebrating in the streets. police are monitoring the crowd. tell us where you are david. it looks very busy. >> i'm standing at mission and 22nd, and take a look. these are folks who filed out in the streets. we have a couple hundred people. families with children, adults, everybody wearing the black and orange gear. it's been a peaceful seen now that the rain has led up.

some of them wearing protective gear, some wearing restraining equipment in case problems break out. so far it hasn't been a problem. there's also been a number of people driving their cars down the street, prodding around, enjoying -- parading around, enjoying the seen. celebrating the giants victory, it's been pretty peaceful. people seem to be enjoying the win for the team and looking ahead to the win. >> thanks david. >> wow. the international cycling union stripped lance armstrong of his seven tour defrance titles and they also banned him from cycling for life. the international group cited findings that armstrong was the central figure in the most sophisticated and successful doping program ever seen in sport. he didn't comment today but has

denied doping charges for years. nurses have announced an one day strike next week on thursday, november 1st. they say that contracts are at an impasand the nurse's -- in pass and the nurses fear cuts in benefits. we talk would management and they told us patient care will not be interrupted. a bankruptcy judge approved a plan by failed solar panel maker to pay off credts -- they improperly gave $341 in tax breaks. the judge gave the justice department ten days to decide whether or not to appeal. this is the t-shirt giants fans are going to want to get their hands on. we'll show you where they're printing

and his nine-year-old daughter. he pleaded guilty to manslaughter and reckless driving. since he was 17 at the time of the crash he was sentenced to 17 years in a jive nile facility. if he had been tried as an adult he would have received an even shorter sentence. >> it's meant as a rehabilitation. he comes hope hopefully understanding what kind of damage he's caused to different families and throughout the community. >> because he was convicted as a minor he will be released in three years as soon as he turns 21. the arrest of two mensas pected of two armed robberies. investigators say james ross and damion ford of san francisco allegedly held up a grocery store on saturday morning. about an hour and 15 minutes later the pair held up plea people on post-street and took

we have obtained video of who two men -- of two men involved in a naked rampage that left two dead and two in jail. he was shot in killed by police after investigators said he put a loaded rifle to an officer's stomach. jason jessie on the right may have been under the influence of drugs. the shooting happened as officers responded to scalls of two naked men breaking windows

whistles. >> people are standing up in the communities, coming out this day to speak to this very issue of police brutality because we know there are many names who are not known. >> reporter: large signs have names and photos of people they say were killed across the nation. many families who lost loved ones called for more attention and investigation into officer- involved shootings. the family of 23-year-old mario romarrow came from vallajeo. there was the family of 18-year- old allen blueford who was shot and killed during a foot chase. in both cases police say the shootings were justified. >> he was sitting in front of a park in a safe area and for

some reason this cop came by and shot him. he was doing nothing wrong. >> reporter: the group march today the jail where they stopped briefly and then went a few blocks down to oakland police headquarters. it was a peaceful demsonstration and there was no confrontation with the protesters. tonight we have learned the identity of a man found dead in amiac saturday afternoon. the corner identified the victim of king gregory carol, jr. his body was found in the 2200 block just before one in the afternoon. police have said little about how he died but they say the circumstances are suspicious. tomorrow we should learn the name of the woman found dead in a cast row valley house fire last week.

the alameda county sheriff's office may release more details about that fire and whether an accelerant was used as initially expected. the home is of a san francisco firefighter who has not been named as a suspect. timothy haggerty had pleaded no contest to embezzlement and other charges and. he was accused for forging school documents to get a loan for his own home. it's not yet clear how much restitution he'll have to pay. the first real storm of the season has turned out to be pretty impressive anymore from a tenth to a half inch of rain and more than an inch in some areas along the north bay as well as the santa cruz mountains. showing you the scattered showers again over our area. we'll continue with the rain oen and off throughout the --

about the totals. these are preliminary because the rain is still falling. oakland, 47, san francisco, 4 tenths, but we watch rain pull through right through the giants game so, i'm sure we'll have some updating there to do as well. we do expect over the next day or so, we're looking mostly cloudy. just a few scatters showers. tuesday we hit a bit of a lull. we don't see a lot of rain in the forecast, but wednesday morning, the rain is back. so we're going to remain unceltled for the next -- unsettled for the next couple days. but we'll be drying out for good later in the week. once again, low 50s for the north bay and here's a look at the afternoon highs a lot like what we felt today. upper 50s and low 6s in the
